Background[]
Before joining the Real Housewives of New York, Sonja was a fixture of New York City social circles. John H. Mariani, author and Food and Travel Correspondent for Esquire Magazine once called her "the straw that stirs the drink."
Sonja is the ex-wife of John Adams Morgan, one of five sons of Henry S. Morgan (whose grandfather founded J.P. Morgan & Company), and descendant of former Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams. The two married in 1998 and had a daughter in 2000.
RHONY[]
Season Three[]
Sonja was first introduced in the third season of Real Housewives of New York.
Season Thirteen[]
Sonja is fired from RHONY, due to a reboot in the RHONY series.
After RHONY[]
Sonja stars in her own spin off Luann & Sonja: Welcome to Crappie Lake, with her co-star Luann de Lesseps.
Business Endeavors[]
Sonja is known for being industrious and ambitious. She has embarked on many business ventures while on the show. These include:
- The Toaster Oven: Fellow castmate Heather Tompson, a self-proclaimed workaholic, helped Sonja with the prototype of her toaster oven, which never hit stores. Sonja has, however, provided recipes and tips on her YouTube channel. The infamous toaster oven was even mentioned on an episode of 30 Rock.
- Tipsy Girl prosecco: Much to fellow castmate Bethenny Frankel's dismay, Sonja also attempted to enter the beverage market with Tipsy Girl prosecco. When compared to Frankel's Skinny Girl margarita and beverage line, Sonja said "Bethenny's is a healthy, low-calorie drink, and I'm doing a full-calorie tipsy drink. I'm doing a regular alcohol. And, I'm different from her. I'm tipsy, and she's skinny."
- Sonja Morgan New York: "Sonja Morgan debuted her international fashion lifestyle brand Sonja Morgan New York, a signature collection of luxury clothing, jewelry, and swimwear at New York Fashion Week. With Sonja’s extensive fashion experience as a model, merchandiser, retailer and luxury brand expert, she infuses her brands with New York City sophistication and an international flair." Sonja believes in luxury that is wearable.
- Sonja Sangria: Premium quality, demi-sparkling sangria, inspired by the classic Valencian recipe.
- Sonja Morgan Shoes: "In 2017, Sonja teamed up with shoe company French Sole to create an eight-piece capsule collection aptly titled ‘French Sole NY by Sonja Morgan.’ Living on the Upper East Side, Morgan would naturally come in to buy her flats for the season, and her 18-year-old daughter has been wearing the brand since she was 9 years old. Now in 2021, Sonja has brought back perennial favorites from the collaboration completely in-house under “Sonja by Sonja Morgan” including the fan-favorite “Maison” Velvet ‘Family Crest’ Stag Loafer in Black or Ruby Red Velvet and the “Jolie” in Black or Taupe Patent with a Tortoise Buckle & Heel."
