Burruss was born to Reverend Tidus Burruss Jr. and Joyce Jones in College Park, Georgia. She has also written music for artists that include Mariah Carey, Destiny's Child and Alicia Keys.

RHOA[]

Kandi joined the series in season two—her connection to the group being from friend Lisa Wu. After meeting Ashley "A.J." Jewell, Kandi had the challenge of balancing motherhood, planning her dream wedding, and launching a solo career and new album. She also had to counter her mom's disapproval of her fiance, A.J., stemming from his number of kids from previous relationships. During the Atlanta series of the Real Housewives, Kandi struggled with her mother and fiance in the hopes of bringing them together, which never happened as the couple broke off their engagement in June 2009. Less than four months later, A.J. passed away unexpectedly, following a brawl outside a nightclub. Kandi's loss took a huge toll on her family and personal life. She promised to stay active in A.J.'s children's lives, who she had grown close to during their relationship. Following her loss, Kandi thrust herself into work, pushing out the single, Fly Above in late 2009. Kandi is still working on her album, B.L.O.G. and executively produced the much talked about, Tardy for the Party for fellow castmate Kim Zolciak.
